Who is Anthony Kim
Who is Anthony Kim
I turn on the Wachovia Championship this weekend and to my surprise I find a young 22 year old with a significant lead. It was pure dominance in an almost Tiger Woods like way. I’ve heard of this kid from time to time, but when I watched him play this weekend I felt like this was going to be someone in the Top 10 on a regular basis. They showed his solid swing numerous times in slow motion, and he truly has some serious talent. He seems to have that confidence in his eye that not everyone on tour necessarily maintains. He had the huge belt buckle with his intials branded across the front, all the Nike gear covering his body, and a look as if I’m going to win this thing no matter what anyone else tries to do. It was great to watch in a week with no Tiger, and really no big names at the top. Although Kim was at the top on his own this time around. Following that I decided to do some more research and realized he was just building up to this win. It was inevitable if you look at his numbers, and this probably won’t be his last win this year. He’s already had 3 top ten finishes. Take a look at his lifetime stats even though there aren’t many at this point: http://www.pgatour.com/players/02/97/18/. Not to bad considering his young age.
However, I guess what I’m actually reaching for in this entry has nothing at all to do with Anthony Kim. It has everything to do with the question of whether or not this tour will stay interesting as Tiger, Phil, Vjay, and all the other current greats get a little older. My guess is that it won’t based on players like Kim, Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Brandt Snedeker, and Trevor Immelman. http://www.pgatour.com. There is enough fire power there to keep it interesting for a long time. I’m still waiting for Sergio to break out as I think he’d be the most interesting from a personality persepective. I’ll take any one of them if they keep the PGA Tour flourishing.
