How to hit a draw
I’m sure we’ve all read many different descriptions on how to hit a draw or fade. There are sometimes a full 2 or 3 pages dedicated to this one subject in many golf magazines alone. By the time you get to the end of the article you wonder what in the world you just read. This is especially difficult for weekend and casual golfers. That doesn’t mean these shots wouldn’t come in handy during your round, and below we tell you in simple terms how to do this even with limited practice. Speaking to many casual golfers on the subject we’ve found it to be fairly effective. Of course it may take a few swings to get the feel down.
So here is the Roaming Golfer Tip:
To hit a draw -
1) Line your feet up to the right of your final target
2) Make sure you pick out a tree or landmark to aim directly for as if your were going to hit your ball at it
3) Now lay the club down on the ground facing this tree or landmark you’ve chosen squarely
4) Once the club is laying flat simply turn it in your hand so that the face is pointed toward your final target (most likely the green)
5) Make sure to keep your grip the same on the club, you only want the face to turn (this may look odd at first but you have to trust it will work)
6) Now take your normal swing down through the ball and don’t hold back on the follow through
7) Make sure to swing your hips so that your belt buckle rotates into your target
Watch the ball gently draw into the pin
To hit a fade -
Follow all the steps above except in step 4 make sure the club face is pointed the opposite direction towards your target. Essentially it’s just reversing the face, but using the same swing.

So that’s how it’s done in the simplest possible terms. The bare bones of it is that the club face just faces a different direction than your probably used to. Don’t worry though just have the confidence that a normal swing will insure the turning of the ball in mid-air.
We hope this works for you and good luck out on the links!
